Maths Fun on the Whiteboard Table

In Maths, we have been using our new whiteboard table to help us solve maths problems.
Here we are solving the problem:
Mrs Parore is hanging out her towels to dry. She puts 2 pegs on each towel. If she has 4 towels, how many pegs will she need?

We drew the towels and used counters to represent the pegs. We used a strategy called repeated addition to solve the problem.
As you can see 2+2+2+2=8.
We can also write this as a multiplication equation 2 x 4 = 8
It's fun to draw on the table because we know we can rub it off!

Cybersmart with James and Gerard

This morning we learnt about our digital footprint.
We talked about what digital means and how everything we do on the internet can be seen by someone else. James worked with some of us on the ipads and Gerard helped the rest of us on our  Chromebooks.

Here are some samples of our work. Smolleygordon worked on the Chromebook and made a Screencastify of his learning.

Hamna used an app on the ipad called Explain Everything to record her thinking.

Garden to Table Term 2

Today was our first day of Garden to Table for Term 2.
We split into 3 groups to do some weeding, planting, watering and harvesting. Today we harvested Kale leaves so that we could cook Kale Chips.

Next we washed and prepared the Kale for cooking. We also made the pikelet mixture and cooked the pikelets.

Lastly, we ate all the leftovers and tidied up the kitchen and hall. It was such a fun day!

You can find our Garden to Table recipes on the tab above.

Futsal

We are learning how to play Futsal. Futsal is from Brazil. It is like soccer but there are only 5 players on each team and the court is much smaller. You can play Futsal inside or outside. There is no off side, you can play anywhere on the court. Futsal is fun because you get to touch the ball a lot and you can score lots of goals. Here are some photos of us playing Futsal.

Term 2!

Welcome back to Room 5 (Rima) at Wesley Primary School. This term our Inquiry is 'The Shape of our Landscape. We will be learning about the land and how it is formed and reformed. We are also reading Maori Myths and Legends that tell how Aotearoa was formed and the meaning behind some New Zealand place names. This is what New Zealand looks like from space. Can you see some land formations?

After looking at some videos of New Zealand's landscapes we went to the sandpit to create our own landforms. We made mountains, volcanoes, hills, and valleys and added water to make lakes, rivers and waterfalls. We were surprised to see how the water changed our formations.

Next week we are visiting the Auckland Museum to see the volcano exhibit!
